A wonderful pair of Victorian gothic metamorphic chapel benches or school benches. This particular pair had been in situ since 1860 until recently being discovered in a school in the South East of England.
The benches have cast iron legs and support arms with the maker’s name moulded into the iron. The legs read “Sidebotham and Co Patentees” to one side, with “National Desk” and Blackfriars St. Manchester” to the reverse.
Each bench can be converted into either a table or a bench with an upright back support. When the two benches are placed together they can create a double table with enough space to comfortably seat eight people per bench.
The pair of benches would make a great addition to a wedding, as a guest table or for a seating arrangement. The seats and backrests, made of pitch pine, are in excellent condition with superb patination, ready to live another life.
Price is for the pair.
British, circa 1860.
