An oak Traditionalist chair from the Amsterdam school of designers and architects.
This beautifully unique armchair displays a wide square back and deep inviting seat with a pair of open high square arms.
The back of the chair is made from two pieces of oak which is cleated at the top and finished with a pair of sweeping panelled legs.
The chair is raised on two jointed legs to the front and united with peripheral stretchers.
Special note has to be made to the intricate joint fixings that have been beautifully made to attach the chairs arms and legs to the stretchers beneath the seat.
A truly wonderful and rare piece of furniture that we are unlikely to ever see again.
Attributed to Alexander Kropholler.
Dutch, circa 1930.
