A rare model of a machinist chair by the American manufacturer Globe Wernicke.
The chair made in iron and oak has an adjustable back rest that can lower the back support and another mechanism that allows the rest to be moved at a forty five degree angle. Each mechanism has a patent cast iron adjustable cog that is tightened or loosened into position as per the requirements of the sitter.
The comfortable gently dished oak seat is adjusted by a swivel mechanism beneath the stem of the seat and once the correct height is found, it can be secured with another cast adjustable cog.
The chair is finished on four out swept oak legs and finished on iron castors for easy manoeuvrability around an office or industrial environment.
Globe Wernicke even though they did have a foray into office seating most notably made their mark with the barristers sectional bookcases and office filing systems. Therefore to find seating examples in good working condition is rare.
A Globe Wernicke brass embossed makers badge to the rear of the back rest is present.
Globe Wernicke even though an American manufacturer and designer had a presence in London at the turn of the 20th century. Much of the sectional bookcase so popular from this time were manufactured in London.
This particular example was made in London, England and is the only example Pointers Antiques have been fortunate to have in the collection.
England, circa 1920.
