A beautiful Arts and Crafts period sundial made of glazed stoneware and attributed to the Garnkirk Fire Clay company, Scotland.
The top of the pedestal is flat in the shape of a heptagon with a copper sundial face with verdigris patina. The upper section of the pedestal with a moulded top is decorated with four heart shaped imprinted designs around the section. Supported by a long cylindrical shaft with smooth faceted sides on a square base. A wave design decorates the pedestal in three sections from base to top.
Almost certainly an English and Scottish Arts and Crafts design but very much in the French Art Nouveau style of the period.
The sundial is strong and sturdy with no wobbles or rocking but of course garden statutory that has been been fired and glazed will come with imperfections as noted in the images. We feel this only adds to the rich history and timeless appeal of this beautiful item of country house design.
A rare survivor.
Scottish, circa 1910.
