A superb 19th-century mahogany chemist’s shop counter.

The substantial moulded edge top over a glazed front is enclosed by two pairs of hinged doors with internal shelves which run the length of the cabinet.

The reverse of the shop counter has a pair of shelves to either end and a selection of smooth-running drawers to the centre. Two long and thin segmented drawers to the top still contain the pharmacy prescription labels with items such as boracic crystals, castor oil, and camphorated oil to name but a few.

This counter would look wonderful in an unfitted kitchen or within a bar/restaurant setting due to its size.

This piece has been fully restored by our workshop for use in the domestic setting, we have kept the original colour and just applied a light wax.

Please note that the castors visable in the images were used for easy maneuverability of the item within the warehouse and are not part of the piece.

The counter had stood in the same position for over a hundred years before we acquired it directly from a pharmacy that was unfortunately going out of business in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

A truly superb piece and getting harder to find in such wonderful condition, wear consistent with age and use.

British, circa 1880.
