An exceptional 18th century provincial farmhouse dining table made of mixed woods of excellent and honest workmanship.
The gently oversailing top is made of two uneven planks of poplar with cleated ends accompanied an unusual narrow plank section along one side of the table top.
The substantial apron in ash is complemented with a large and deep smooth running drawer with an ash drawer lined base and an original turned handle.
The table is raised on four block legs in ash with an H-shaped stretcher in fruitwood.
Special note has to be made to the intricate joint fixings that have beautifully made to attach the rails to the stretchers at either end beneath the table.
A rare and special item of Welsh vernacular furniture of simple but highly effective discipline in remarkable untouched condition.
Welsh, circa 1760.
